Mason's Media Production program has again been recognized by the local chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its exceptional student talent with a Student Production Award. Luke Givens, a producer within the program, secures the Student Production Award in the commercials category for his team project, The Dip Clip.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to honor Brittany Sanders, BA Communication '14, with the 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award - Communication. Sanders is the graduate programs coordinator for the communication department and has now started her tenth year in the job.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to honor Dvon Williams, BA Communication '06, with the 2023 CHSS Alumni Service Award to Industry. Williams brings more than 15 years of experience in public relations, media, strategic brand positioning, thought leadership and executive visibility to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as chief communications officer.

Reflecting on his experience, Brandyn said, "This interview was a defining moment in my journalism career and further solidified my desire to become an anchor. Being in a newsroom, seeing what happens within one, and being a part of the show was a surreal but exciting experience I am so thankful for and will never forget."

"I’m excited to share that I have started a new position as a production assistant for NBC Universal at NBC4! Looking forward to learning and expanding my knowledge in the production industry to sharpen my skills as a journalist." Jalen said.

Professor Schmeidler and students from COMM 208 Introduction to Media Production welcomed recent #MasonCOMM graduates Ricky Chang, NASA Intern, and Gabby McGlockton, CoStar Group Inc. Intern, and David Boyars, Virid Corporate Intern, to discuss their internship and job search process, how to prepare for a job interview, skills they've learned on the job, what it’s like working in an office environment, how their production classes in college prepared them for the workplace, and their words of advice for current college students.

Naessiamba reflected on her major accomplishment, "Today, I am glad I did not give up; I am so happy for the support and encouragement I received, which made this journey worthwhile. Mason is my dream come true, and I hope to receive all the necessary training and support to help me advance in this academic journey."

Ever since sixth grade, Ricky Chang looked up at the stars and wondered what could be out there in the vastness of unexplored space. Now, he has a front-row seat to interstellar research.

CHR Summer Research Fellow talks about her path to Mason, the CHR, and the broader impact of her project "Making Birth Stories Matter(s): An Examination of Health, Communication, Culture and Identity through Critical Autoethnography and Narratives of Women Birthing with Doulas."

Students conducted primary and secondary research to develop substantive content and the rationale for objective-driven, 21 day strategic social media campaigns. Following a detailed content calendar, they ran the social media campaigns and then measured results.

Madalyn Godfrey is a junior Communication major with concentrations in journalism and public relations and a minor in political communication. She is a Fall 2023 social media intern with Friends of Pat Herrity, located in the Springfield District of Fairfax County.

Mason COMM and Global Affairs faculty member, Dr. Iccha Basnyat, was invited to Geneva as an external expert for World Health Organization (WHO) Guidance on Learning and Capacity Building in Health Emergencies.

Dr. Wright and Kristin Tyburczy (from CRIM) presented at NACADA on Friday, October 6. Their presentation was titled, “Work Smarter, Not Harder: Developing your Communication Plan”.

Highlighting the health relevance of climate change and the health benefits of climate solutions can generate support for climate action, a major review of evidence on the subject has found.

Streaming, along with better technology and the dominance of social media, can also weaken the value of AIM’s core offerings — professional-grade equipment, studios and training for content creators — says Rodger Smith, a senior instructor in the George Mason University Department of Communication. “Why go to AIM when I can be in my house and I can create a podcast that still sounds broadcast quality or I can produce video,” says Smith, who is also the faculty advisor for WGMU, the campus online radio station. “They have to offer a service that [people] can’t find anyplace else.”
