Dr. Erik Holland is originally from California but comes to Mason after spending the last 14 years in Austin, Texas. He has a background teaching a wide range of courses in communication, rhetoric, and media studies at institutions ranging from community colleges and small liberal arts universities to leading undergraduate and graduate research institutions (like George Mason!). Erik's research and teaching interests orbit around the coordinates of rhetorical criticism, popular cultural studies, and racial identity formation. His recent primary methodological frame is psychoanalytic criticism, drawing primarily from the works of Freud and Lacan and, by extension, Fanon and Zizek.
