Doniven Hill-Bush is a second-year M.A. student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Communication at George Mason University. Before Mason, he earned his B.S. in Political Communication with a minor in African American Studies at Illinois State University in Normal, IL. Doniven is interested in researching how systems of oppression are legitimized through mass media channels. Specifically, he focuses on how pop culture is used as a weapon against Black liberation movements.
As an undergrad attending ISU, Doniven created an impressive resume. This includes multiple national championships as a member of the ISU Forensics Union (Speech and Debate Team), founding the Black Communication Association, and serving as a panelist during the NCA's 108th Annual Convention, held in New Orleans, LA. Currently, Doniven uses his speech experience to coach GMU's top-three-ranked forensics team. Outside academia, Doniven is an organizer in the DC area and a staff writer for Iansá Magazine.
