Alyssa H. Harrell is a PhD student and graduate research assistant in the Department of Communication at George Mason University, where she focuses on health communication. She earned her B.A. in Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida and completed her M.A. in Mass Communications with a concentration in Strategic Communication Management at the University of South Florida. Before beginning her doctoral studies, Alyssa worked as a Research Fellow at the National Cancer Institute, where she gained experience in behavioral and health communication research.

Alyssa’s research interests include health communication, patient-provider interactions, and health education and promotion. She is particularly focused on designing messages to influence health behaviors and attitudes, improving communication between patients and healthcare providers, and finding ways to engage diverse populations. Her work often aims to address health disparities through strategic communication and evidence-based messaging.
