Health Communication

Ashley is a graduate student in the M.A. Communication program and is a graduate lecturer for COMM 101: Introduction to Communication. 

She earned a B.A. in Communication from Western Carolina University. There Ashley concentrated in Health Communication and minored in Social Aspects of Public Health. Currently, she is pursing an M.A. in Communication at George Mason University where she is focusing on Health Communication. 

Ashley's research experience has focused on a study analyzing digital dating abuse perception among college students. She presented this research at the 2025 DC Health Communication conference hosted by George Mason University. The resulting article of this research will be submitted for publication in the near future. 

Ashley's industry work experience has taken place at the WNC Health Network and Arclet, both of which are organizations focused on providing health communication resources for communities to promote health and wellness. 

At the WNC Health Network, Ashley created toolkits for responding to natural disasters, specifically as they impact the Western North Carolina region. In addition, she also spearheaded the development of communication internship resources, conducted an environmental scan of existing natural disaster social media content, and did research to address organizational needs. 

With Arclet, Ashley has contributed to the growing database of social media assets available to organizations communicating about various health topics. Her work has centered on collecting and formatting assets and related information for upload to the program.
