Cassie Northern is a senior Communication minor with a concentration in journalism and is majoring in Art and Visual Technology. She was a Summer 2026 remote intern for The Fairfax Girl, which creates lifestyle and community content for those living in Northern Virginia. It is a branch underneath a network titled The Local Girl, which also reports on many communities throughout the U.S. and draws in an audience of millions each year. During her internship, Cassie communicated closely with The Local Girl’s deputy editor Stephanie Spear while exploring her community, sharing exciting happenings she found with readers, and dipping her toe into the world of lifestyle journalism. Some of Cassie’s internship tasks included:
● writing various articles focused on different lifestyle happenings in NOVA,
● engaging in interviews with different members of the community,
● completing research in various topics in order to gain the most valuable information,
● gathering social media content, and
● sourcing events to add to The Fairfax Girl’s website calendar for the community to access.
Overall, Cassie was very excited to intern with The Fairfax Girl because of all the new experiences that allowed her to utilize and sharpen her existing journalism skills. She was also excited to venture out, learn more about her hometown, and gather valuable information about interviewing, writing, website-creation, and more that she will use in her future endeavors.
