Valeria is a senior double major in Communication with a concentration in public relations and a foreign language major with a concentration in Spanish. She interned with the Prince William County Government Community Services Board (CSB). The CSB is a county agency dedicated to improving the well-being of residents affected by or at risk of developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders through community-based services and outreach. Valeria works under Princess Clark-Wendel, the media and CSB communications manager. The internship supports Valeria’s professional growth by strengthening her skills in strategic communication and community engagement. Some of Valeria’s internship tasks include:
● building and maintaining a structured community partner database,
● assisting with the creation of a quarterly community partnership newsletter,
● providing ongoing outreach and partner engagement support at CSB events, and
● creating and publishing weekly LinkedIn job postings for CSB career opportunities.
Overall, this internship provides Valeria with hands-on experience in local government, strategic communications and community engagement while also providing insights into what she can do postgraduation.
