Mason Communication Intern of the Week

Madalyn Godfrey is a junior Communication major with concentrations in journalism and public relations and a minor in political communication. She is a Fall 2023 social media intern with Friends of Pat Herrity, located in the Springfield District of Fairfax County. Friends of Pat Herrity is a political campaign organization that was established 2006 and has supported Supervisor Herrity in his election and re-elections as Springfield District Supervisor. He is currently up for re-election for his fifth term in office in November and is known for his work on growing Fairfax County economy, cutting unnecessary spending and taxes, addressing the public safety crisis, keeping Fairfax schools the best in the country and alleviating traffic congestion. Madalyn has been putting GMU learning and coursework into practice. Some of her internship tasks include:

-          developing and posting social media content,

-          assisting in creating newsletters, flyers and literature handouts,

-          coordinating and capturing high quality photographs, and

-          analyzing data from insights in order to enhance engagement.

While working on a political campaign, Madalyn has gained valuable skills in her public relations concentration and political communication minor. In addition, the campaign has allowed her the opportunity to network and understand more about the political sphere.
