Ricky Chang is a senior communication major with a concentration in media production and criticism. He is an intern at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center located in Greenbelt Maryland as part of the CIS office (commercialization, innovations, and synergies). The Goddard Space Flight Center is the first of many locations founded in 1959. They build space crafts, instruments, and new technology to study the earth, our solar system, and the universe. His immediate supervisor is a commercial engagement officer. Ricky works on various NASA projects, and is able to expand his marketing and event planning knowledge. Some of these tasks include:
• promote space commercialization by encouraging collaboration between private industry and government to explore new space markets and opportunities,
• promote CIS and ESC’s commercialization efforts and services,
• increase engagement within the industry, other government agencies and academia,
• enhance NASA’s brand awareness in the public and private parentships arena.
Each task gives Ricky a better understanding of what it takes to translate big concepts into digestible portions as well as how to find ways to engage the public with space exploration. He is grateful to be in an internship where he is surrounded by very smart people working toward a goal that is bigger than themselves.
