Mason COMM Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Spotlight

Annalise Emons is a senior communication major with a public relations concentration and minors in sustainability studies and American government. She is a spring 2023 undergraduate teaching assistant for COMM 320 – Business and Professional Communication. This course teaches students the fundamentals of workplace communication and helps students hone the skills necessary to be an effective communicator in their work environment. Annalise’s tasks as a UTA help her develop and expand her management, organization, and leadership skills. Some of her responsibilities include:

  •           sending weekly reminder emails,
  •          assisting with course management and logistics,
  •           providing feedback on student assignments like resumes and cover letters, and
  •          providing additional support for students.

Each week, Annalise learned best practices for supporting student success in a college course. She enjoyed working with the curriculum and supporting her peer’s development throughout the semester. The team management and professional communication skills learned make Annalise an effective member of the Stride corporate communications team and will help her succeed in law school as she pursues her J.D.
