Emily Medellin is a graduating senior majoring in communication with a concentration in public relations. When she returned from a semester abroad at George Mason’s international campus in Incheon, South Korea, she was excited to start her spring 2023 internship at MarshmallowMBA in Red Lion, PA. This small business handcrafts gourmet marshmallows in over 100 flavors for retail and wholesale customers across the United States and Canada. They won the Best Innovation Award from Retail Confectioners International. Their close-knit team allows Emily to work directly under the owner, Amy Trout. Emily is able to learn everything from social media management to digital marketing. Some of her tasks include:
- Creating weekly content for their social media platforms e.g. Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and TikTok,
- Keeping up with current trends and upcoming events to produce relevant content,
- Planning and executing new campaigns to boost online presence and user engagement,
- Assisting with trade show events including producing promotional material and accompanying her to sed events, and
- Suggesting ways in which the company can centralize their platforms and content.
With each task, Emily better understands working in the public relations industry. She enjoys this opportunity and learning new professional skills that will assist finding full time employment upon graduation.
