For Editor of Communication Website
Welcome to CHSSWeb2! We have a help website: chssweb2.gmu.edu. If you are having problems with something and can't find what you need, please contact us at chssweb@gmu.edu. Please feel free to provide us with feedback on the help site and suggestions for additions or changes.
Changes
- Pages and sections are ordered to follow the main navigation. First, the home page, then For-Editor, then Contact, followed by the main links from the left navigation top to bottom. Don't move any of the main pages into or out of a section, as that will change the URL and the link from the main left hand navigation will break.
- New best practices in web advise editors not to embed hyper links in the text itself, but to put the links relevant to a page in resource groups at the end of the page. We redid that for a few of the current communication pages including News Outlets, Professional Organizations in Communication. This is current best web practice because it makes keeping links updated more easily. You can put the same resource links on multiple pages without having to update them in more than one place.
Suggestions
- The About page is not linked to anywhere in the site that we can find. We put this at the end of the Sections and Pages view and suggest that you delete it.
- The Women and Language Table of Contents is set up very badly. There are much better ways to handle on-line resources like this journal. If you would like help in improving the way you are handling this, please contact chssweb@gmu.edu and we can give you some advice. Since Anita will no longer be the editor, would it be appropriate to just have a link to the new site, assuming that the new editor will host a site/webpage at his/her university.
- Test Out Page - Communication 100 page /comm-100 needs updating for fall 2011. Also page is very long. Could Speech Score Sheet be an attachment or another page?
- Don't center text on a web page. Best practice is to use left alignment consistently.
- Use heading H2 for main headings on pages; H3 for subheadings. Don't use bold, capitalization, or underlining for headings.
- On PhD Program Information page don't repeat the degree requirements; provide a link to the degree requirements page. It is confusing to have different presentations to the same information. Please ask chssweb@gmu.edu for information on how to best present this information.
- On Program Profile page there is a lot of prospective student information. We suggest that you remove all thelinks to the prospective student information since there is now a separate page for prospective students specific to communication; this is a link from the left navigation.
- There is a page The Public Relations Student Society of America under the Graduate section. As far as we can tell, this page isn't linked anywhere. Should it be added to the Comm Dept Resources for Grad Students resource group?
Broken Links
- On internships page, is 106.7 The Fan internship expired 9/11/09 or is it still available. If not, please delete.
