Job description:

The role of the Communication Intern is to recruit new students to join Student Media, assist with summer office projects and initiatives, maintain and increase social media presence, and provide support for the upcoming Fall semester. The Communication Intern provides excellent customer service to students, visitors, and advertisers using social media, email marketing, and community outreach events.

Specific duties include:

  • Act as a representative for Student Media at Orientation Sessions – this would encompass becoming familiar with each of the 12 Student Media groups, understanding the application process for interested students, and learning about the ways students can become involved 
  • Perform front desk receptionist duties (answering phone calls and emails, greeting visitors, data entry, etc.) in a professional manner 
  • Work with the directors to create a public relations plan for the 2016-2017 academic year, including a plan of execution (strategies, tactics, timeline), as well as recruit a PR Team 
  • Actively respond to students who have expressed interest in a timely manner 
  • Use social media, email, and online marketing efforts to ensure that a clear message is consistently communicated across all mediums for all Student Media groups 
  • Assist administrative staff with special projects and events as needed 
  • Brainstorm new, innovative ways of reaching the Mason community 
  • Encourage peers to participate in Student Media on­-the­-job and off 
  • Attend meetings as required

Pay Rate: $10/hr — WORK STUDY POSITION ONLY (awarded through Financial Aid) 

Avg. Hours/Week: 20 (most during business hours, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and some early morning Orientation hours)
