The Mason Debate Team qualified for the National Debate Tournament, the topmost national tournament for varsity debaters across the country, on February 22 and 23. The team of Tod Mohney and Young Kwon won the District Tournament and was the first team of the competition to secure a spot in the coveted national finals. Mohney and Kwon will travel to Indiana in March to represent Mason at the 78th National Debate Tournament.

While Mohney and Kwon were competing in the varsity division of the tournament, JV and Novice debaters were competing in a combined JV/Novice event at the District Tournament.  Andre Massa, Dillon Caldwell, Lizbett Mendoza and Paula Kostuik all advanced to the quarter-final round. Erica Jalbuena and Alec Lantaigne advanced to the semi-final round. Massa also won top speaker of the JV/Novice division. It was a successful weekend for the entire team.
