Communication doctoral student, Philip Wilkerson, represented George Mason University’s Department of Communication at the 111th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) in Norfolk, Virginia.
During the conference, Philip contributed to two presentations:
• A collaborative panel discussion exploring artificial intelligence, mental health, and environmental justice in Black and Brown communities alongside scholars and practitioners from across the country.
• A presentation of The Power of Belonging, a documentary examining the recruitment, retention, and resilience of Black male faculty and staff in higher education.
This year’s conference celebrated 100 years of ASALH and honored the legacy of founder Dr. Carter G. Woodson while exploring the theme, African Americans and Labor.
We are proud to see our students advancing important conversations, building scholarly partnerships, and representing George Mason University on a national stage. Congratulations, Philip!
