At a time when traditional journalism has come and gone, George Mason University students have an opportunity to create the future of content and storytelling. At Mason we are advancing our Journalism advising in innovative ways to include branding, digital content, digital marketing, start-up growth, content and DEIA business and reporting incubators. Beth Jannery, rejoined the Department of Communication this year and is reinvigorating what it means to study journalism at Mason.
What follows is a snapshot of Communication Cases highlighting the work the Journalism program is engaged in: 2022 -2024. We believe in advancing student development and faculty professional development inside and outside of the classroom. We are looking at ways to bridge the classroom and the workplace with innovative ideas.

This week we highlight
PBS Story Maker- Creating a Mason Reporting Lab
In journalism classes, student journalists are actively exploring the resources offered by the Story Maker program. These tools and resources enhance our classroom journalism, writing and reporting experience and students are encouraged to use the reporting and writing prompts from story assignments as they relate to course assignments. This year is our incubator phase as we try out the tools and consider how best to engage with the PBS program for our long-term classroom benefit. Story Maker is a powerful learning platform developed by PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs to build the next generation of media creators.
