#MasonCOMM 2016 Alum Darian K. Banks Puts Her PR Knowledge to Good Use

Darian Banks, Communication Specialist for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Banks is a George Mason 2016 alumna, who earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication, minor in Tourism and Event Management. She went on to earn her master’s degree in Strategic Communication from Liberty University. Banks prides herself on her ability to lead teams of people with various backgrounds, time management, and her willingness to step outside of her comfort zone.

Her experience and skills range from strategic planning and stakeholder management to program analysis and graphic design. She values diversity, equity, and inclusion and leads a working group dedicated to defining these in action, identifying areas for improvement, and recommending long-term actions to leadership. Banks currently works in one of FEMA’s largest organizations – the Recovery Directorate – in their Reporting and Analytics Division supporting communication objectives through developing strategic plans and marketing content, engaging with stakeholders and advising leadership on current and future state operations.
