Senior Spotlight - Dominique Bernardino

What are you studying?
I will be graduating in May with a BA in Film and Video Studies and Communication with a concentration in Public Relations.

Extracurricular Activities:
I have been a member of the Her Campus at George Mason chapter for two years, serving as a staff writer and previously an Instagram editor. In the past, I have also been involved with the student-run newspaper, Fourth Estate, where I served as the multimedia editor for two years. Previously, I have interned for an online magazine, called Lithium Magazine, where I was also given the opportunity to become a social media director.

Career Goals:
I aim to work in the public relations field as a social media manager specifically hoping to work with brands immersed in popular culture and media. My passion for the arts and driving progress to influence and enhance one’s brand image is rooted in my internships and experiences working on social media.

Favorite Course/Professor:
When I declared Communication as my second major in my freshman year, I was extremely excited to take the PR and social media class taught by Professor Mims since I have heard many great things about it. Fortunately, I was able to take the class in my junior year and I can say that it has to be one of my favorites because I was able to grow not only as a student but also as a PR professional. I worked on projects that have given me the skills to become a better writer, speaker and professional.

My advice to a new COMM major is this:
Use your time and resources wisely. There is no perfect time to apply for that internship or expand your knowledge on writing, photography or videography, but now. I invested in my skills, experiences and organizations as soon as I entered my freshman year and I think doing so has prepared me for professional life and has given me more opportunities than expected.
