COMM Undergraduate Teaching Assistant of the Week (2/8/2021)

Madison Dirlam is a senior Communication major with a concentration in Media Production and Criticism, and is minoring in Sport Communication. She is a spring 2021 Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) for Professor Tomasovic’s Business and Professional Communication course, COMM 320. This course helps students grasp, understand, and develop necessary career management skills used in the professional environment. Being a teaching assistant for this course will not only further her knowledge on business topics but will also allow her to gain leadership and management experience. Some of Madison’s tasks and responsibilities are:

- Hold weekly office hours to communicate with and help students

- Assist with various assignments and pedagogy for the course

- Send weekly Blackboard email reminders

- Give feedback for improvement on assignments, e.g. resumes and cover letters

Madison is able to see how a professor functions in an online course.  She is learning how to work with college level students, and sincerely enjoys helping her peers.  To study the field of education was a desire of Madison’s, but communication, media productions and criticism are now her primary focus. This UTA experience of learning how to manage students and lead, is providing her with skills she will carry throughout the rest of her academic and professional career.
