COMM Virtual Intern of the Week (7/10/2020)

Matthew Hoang is a junior communication major concentrating in media production and criticism and is minoring in forensic science. He is a summer 2020 intern at Hashtag Gaming Arena an esports event venue owned by Hashtag Studios, the production branch of DC Entertainment Solutions; a media, publishing, retail, and event company headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia. Matthew’s immediate supervisor is Drew Crowder the CEO of Hashtag. This internship allowed Matthew to gain a stronger understanding of media production and new forms of digital marketing such as social media. As a production intern some of his tasks include:

- Work with staff to coordinate event attendance.
- Craft social media posts to build traction for events.
- Research adaptive measures taken by previous social gathered events and productions.
- Film short video promos to advertise products.

Each of these tasks help Matthew in gaining a better understanding of the inner workings of a production studio and the intricacies of digital marketing. This internship will give Matthew valuable employment skills that will aid him in his future career after graduation.
