Tmara Maraka is a senior communication major with a double concentration in journalism and public relations. For the spring 2020 semester, she interns for the Integrated Enrollment Marketing (IEM) office at GMU. The office manages communications with new students to ensure that they align with the university's strategic vision. They also oversee division events, collaborate with units on academic-specific communications, and work with the Office of Communications and Marketing on digital and print marketing initiatives. Tmara interns for the marketing coordinator. Some of her tasks include:
- Building and optimizing personalized email marketing campaigns utilizing Salesforce;
- Assisting with development of marketing content and information resources for GMU admissions;
- Engaging with ongoing conversations to improve brand awareness across all platforms;
- Pitching project ideas to IEM team.
With each assignment, Tmara further develops excellent communication and writing skills, and she better understands the thought process and efforts that go into producing effective marketing content. The skills and experience gained with IEM will serve to give her a professional edge after graduation.
