Bailey Williams is a senior Communication major with a concentration in Media Production and Criticism, and a minor in Sports Communication. She is a spring 2020 sports intern at WUSA9 located in Washington, D.C., which is an innovative media company that serves the greater good of its communities.
WUSA9 is a CBS affiliate and a division of TEGNA Inc. Their purpose is to seek solutions as well as expose problems and wrongdoing and to provide editorial and community leadership. They seek to promote understanding of complex issues and advocate for communities. Bailey’s immediate supervisor is the director of sports, Darren Haynes, who has made special appearances on ESPN’s Sports Center. Some of Bailey’s responsibilities include: coordinating and logging video footage of sports highlights, assisting with interviews (in the field, live studio and post-production), researching content, and writing drafts for on-air scripts.
Bailey is passionate about her internship, as she purses her goals to better her writing skills and on-air talent. She is able to incorporate some of her GMU coursework to succeed in the internship, and is very grateful to have the opportunity to gain experience and grow as a sports journalist.
