COMM Intern of the Week (2/5/2020)

Meet the Communication Department's Intern of the Week - Madison Wiernusz!

Madi is a senior communication major with a public relations concentration. This semester, she interns for the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The museum complements the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum located in Washington, D.C. The museum’s structure is two redesigned airport hangars that are now home to thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery. Madi interns for the public affairs specialist, and will learn about and contribute to various aspects of tourism marketing and public affairs. Some of her tasks include:
Assisting in the development and implementation of marketing plans for upcoming museum programs; Contributing to the execution of the museum’s tourism and hospitality e-newsletter; Participating in tourism meetings, hotel marketing visits and airport meetings; and staffing museum and community events.

With each assignment, Madi further understands the daily operation of a museum, develops her media relations skills and learns more about various tourism outreach efforts. The skills she acquires and practices will greatly benefit Madi far beyond her time at the Smithsonian and George Mason. #ThisisMasonCOMM
