COMM Intern of the Week: Licie Leite

Licie Leite is a senior communication major, with a public relations concentration and a journalism minor. She is a Spring 2019 intern at Merritt Group, a McLean-based public relations and marketing agency focused on delivering services to government, B2B technology, and security verticals. , Merritt Group assists clients with achieving their goals from day one, including PR strategy, media/analyst relations to branding, content strategy, and web design. Licie’s supervisor is Cara LaMaina, a senior account executive and coordinator of Merritt’s Virginia intern program. Every week, Licie is challenged with new tasks that contribute to the advancement of her public relations

Skills and comm concentration. Some of Licie’s tasks include:

 

  • Writing briefing docs and pitches for different client accounts
  • Building and updating media lists and events/awards lists
  • Analyzing media coverage and flagging relevant news
  • Developing and publishing creative content for Merritt’s social platforms
  • Being proactive and taking initiative in projects

 

“What I found the most challenging and at the same time exciting about the PR industry, is that you have to be constantly learning about new industries and trends to be able to meet your clients’ needs,” Licie said. The fast-paced environment combined with the constant learning that PR practitioners experience day-to-day is perfect for Licie, who plans on working at a public relations agency upon graduation. She is thankful to have this opportunity in a company that strives to provide her with meaningful tasks and experiences and broaden her knowledge of the industry.
