COMM 208: Intro to Media Production will be offered this Summer!

This summer, the media production program is extending an extraordinary opportunity specifically to our undergraduate students in Journalism and Public Relations.  We’ve heard your calls for providing a way for your students to gain valuable skills necessary for entry into the media market and the MPC is prepared to deliver!

For the first time in 10 years, COMM 208-A01:  Intro to Media Production (3) will be offered and the Student Video Center will stay open in the month of May and June.  The 5-week intensive hands-on course will introduce the novice to the principles and practices of preproduction, production and postproduction.  Students will gain knowledge through experiential learning on how to produce content, work camcorders and DSLRs, the basics of lighting, sound and digital postproduction using a variety of practical assignments.  The course will meet MWF 1:20pm – 4:20 pm (May 20 – June 22, 2019).

Course instructor Nancy Mantelli, who has been teaching COMM 208 for the past five years, is a 30-year veteran producer and currently the video production instructor at West Potomac Academy.  According to her Mason students, “she is one of the sweetest professors at Mason.”  Another student said on RateMyProfessor, “I was dreading taking this class because I had never worked with a camera before but Professor Mantelli is the BEST.”  And, yet another testified that “Mantelli is hilarious, caring, and wants you to succeed. Show you're trying, and she'll build off your strengths.”

Although the concentrations do not require it, this course will provide students with foundational skills that they can use in their chosen profession, today!
