William J. (Jim) McAuley is a Professor of Communication at George Mason University and regularly teaches both Undergraduate and Graduate Research Methodology Communication classes and Undergraduate Intercultural Communication.. Dr. McAuley received his Ph. D. in sociology from The Pennsylvania State University.

Dr. McAuley is also the Editor-in-Chief of The Gerontologist, a top-tier journal in aging. He recently worked with other Communication Department faculty on a project funded by the Kaiser Family Foundation, which examined the marketing of Medicare managed care. The Association for Gerontology in Higher Education has awarded Dr. McAuley with the TIBBITTS Award for his outstanding work in the advancement of gerontology and geriatrics education. He also recently received the Outstanding Mentor Award from the Behavioral and Social Sciences Section of the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. McAuley also greatly enjoys photography, mainly finding interesting things to photograph, especially in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
