Cross-platform journalism, sports journalism, history of journalism

As a journalist, teacher, media consultant, sports content specialist and web writing instructor, Steve Klein brings solid journalism credentials and values, the ability to work and communicate with people, and a cross-platform vision for journalism to his academic and professional work.

Steve served as coordinator of the Online Journalism minor, the Sport Communication minor, and the Journalism concentration in the Communication Department from 2003-2013 at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Steve specializes in a cross-platform journalism approach and has taught classes in Writing Across Media, News Writing & Reporting, Online Journalism, Sports Writing & Reporting, Political Journalism, and History of Journalism: From Gutenberg to Zuckerberg. He led a summer Global Education program to County Sligo, Ireland in 2008.

Steve was honored by the Communication Department, as well as Mason Student Media, as both professor and faculty member of the year in 2007.

A working journalist for most of his career at media companies (USA Today, the Lansing State Journal, the Stamford Advocate, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Akron Beacon Journal, the South Bend Tribune, the Wisconsin State Journal), Steve has taught at Michigan State University, American University, Cape Cod Community College and GMU for more than 20 years. He was a visiting instructor at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., for the 2013-14 academic year.
