Erika Ortner became a part of the Basic Course Teaching Team in 2019. She is a graduate lecturer in the communication department. She is currently working toward her master's degree in strategic communications. Ms. Ortner interned at Sage Communications and Ebenezer United Methodist Chuch while in undergrad. She has also worked alongside the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention and the George Mason Communication Department on communication and branding projects. Ms. Ortner's says she is most proud of her work with the Virginia National Guard Youth and Family Programs. As a communication specialist, she has worked directly with the state teen panel holding communication seminars and Q&As with the teens, speaking at VANG Youth and Family Programs conferences and hosting communication seminars on topics including Communicating Your Truth, Part-Time Army Brat, and You Aren’t Just Representing Yourself, It's Much Bigger Than That, along with others.
