This is a beginner’s course designed to provide students with an understanding of camera operation, framing and composition, lighting, audio and editing. Grading will be heavily based on technical proficiency and artistic expression using the basic tools of media production. This course is demanding in terms of time and technological abilities, so ask questions and stay on track.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this face-to-face course, students must be able to:
Identify, describe and recall theoretical concepts of media production.
Distinguish and explain various methods of application of both hardware and software unique to media production.
Demonstrate basic competency that is required for media production through applied activities.
Formulate a plan to design, develop and construct effective media campaigns using visual projects for appropriate public presentation.
Evaluate, critique and/or judge the principles, practices and aesthetics of visual presentation.
Provides a general introduction to media production with emphasis on the basics of multimedia tools for camera, audio, lighting, and editing, focusing on non-fiction, journalism, or public relations/advocacy presentations. Equivalent to COMM 355.
