Communication Intern of the Week: Mona M. Linsey

Mona M. Linsey is a senior communications major with a concentration in interpersonal and organizational communication. She is currently a community outreach intern at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia. The JCC is a nonprofit organization that aims to create a community among Jewish people and the community at large. It provides different services to children, families, special needs and adults. It is an active participant in community engagement. Mona works in the adult’s department. She is learning interpersonal and organizational communication skills by working with a well experienced team and with active community members. Some of her tasks and responsibilities include the following:

 

  • Manages and monitors social media pages daily
  • Helps plan, organize and execute events within the community
  • Informs senior citizens about the center’s services, programs and events
  • Assists with administrative tasks
  • Reaches out to the community in multiple ways
  • Updates and edits collected data
  • Interacts with seniors by answering and addressing questions and concerns

 

This wonderful opportunity is a great fit for Mona. She is able to gain authentic skills related to her concentration. The ability to work with a flexible schedule works well with her class schedule. She enjoys working independently and collectively within her field of studies. Working with seniors has been rewarding, because their smiles, patience and kindness has left Mona with a grateful heart.
