Communication Intern of the Week: Lydia Antonio-Villa

Lydia Antonio-Vila is a junior communication major, with a journalism concentration, and a global affairs minor. She is a Spring 2019 intern at Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Washington, D.C.  AFP is an international news agency, headquartered in Paris, France. They deliver fast, accurate, in-depth coverage of events shaping the world from conflicts to politics, economics, sports, entertainment and the latest breakthroughs. Lydia’s immediate supervisor is the North American social media editor. The various assigned projects allow her to use her multimedia skills and expand her knowledge of journalism and public relations techniques.  Some of Lydia’s tasks are:

  • Monitoring AFP’s Facebook account and three Twitter accounts
  • Choosing and scheduling posts for the Facebook account
  • Choosing and scheduling posts for the 3 Twitter accounts(main account, sports account, and entertainment account)
  • Updating the daily photo gallery by looking through AFP’s photo system, and

choosing 12 different photos taken that day for clients to receive at the end of the week

This fast-paced environment is perfect for Lydia, who plans on working at a news agency upon graduation, and every AFP internship day is an excellent learning experience.
