MA in Communication

Frances Womble, 2017

Frances Womble is currently focused on areas where family communication and organizational communication meet. For her thesis, she is researching parental satisfaction of school communication about concerning behaviors in the classroom.

Frances has also done quite a bit with health communication. Last spring, she earned a top student research presentational award at the 2013 D.C. Health Communication Conference for a paper that she wrote with two other graduate students about healthy nutrition as portrayed through games on websites of children's television networks. Recently, she and fellow PhD student Jordan Alpert had an article about coping strategies of caregivers published in the Journal of Health Communication.

After graduation, Frances will be working with family communication coordination with the Early Childhood Program in D.C. Public Schools.

Frances has a bachelor's in journalism and worked as a newspaper reporter for a brief period of time. She also worked in the Marketing and Communications department of a healthcare system before coming to Mason for her master's. In the Fall 2013 semester, she taught public speaking and interpersonal communication and taught interpersonal communication again in the Spring 2014 semester.
