Assistant Professor

Writing and Rhetoric

My area of expertise is rhetoric. As a consultant, I work with sales organizations to help them close business-to-business deals. As a professor, I enjoy learning and discovering along with students.

I have worked in non-profit organizations (a symphony and a hospital) and in public secondary schools in Michigan and Fairfax County. My higher education experiences include writing and marketing at the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan and teaching as an adjunct at Northern Virginia Community College. Previous to my current role with the English department, I taught BUS 303 as an assistant professor for the Costello College of Business at GMU.

As a business consultant, I have collaborated with sales leaders at software companies (Splunk, Cloudera, Trifacta, CloudBees, and LinkLabs).

Education

My PhD in writing and rhetoric was earned from George Mason University in 2017. I am proud to be the first graduate of the first cohort of that program.

Before that, I earned a bachelor's degree in public relations (1997, Western Michigan University) and a master's degree in communications (2004, Eastern Michigan University). While at EMU, I also became certified to teach English and communication at the secondary level.
