Section Information for Fall 2016

So...you want to be a DJ on the radio? Really want thousands of people to hear your voice? Be the next Howard Stern?

Well, you've found the correct course! In fact, I'll make you BETTER than Stern! :)

You'll learn the basic skills to produce a music show:

  • voice presentation and delivery,
  • working with the console,
  • what to say so people will WANT to listen to you.

This is a class for a person who has no previous radio on-air experience (take Comm 348 if you've completed Comm 148 or have previous experience). You start in our practice studio, where you produce real-time music DJ shows. Once the WGMU Program Director believes you are ready, you'll move to our on-air studio in the JC.

Learn about WGMU and listen to our stream.

This is a great skill to learn. Several students (Kevin McCarthy, movie reviewer on Fox News and Fox 5 locally; Brian van de Graaf, weather forecaster on Newschannel 8 locally; Annie Yu, Fox 5 news anchor and reporter; Bill Rohland, voice of the Mason Patriots basketball broadcasts) have come through this class.

Learn the skills in this class, work on your craft, and you could have a radio career as well!

See you in class!
