Concentrations (with approved courses):

Interpersonal and Organizational Communication

  • This concentration examines communication in a variety of contexts, ranging from pairs and small groups to large institutions and organizations, and explores such issues as conflict, diversity, and man ageing change.

Journalism

  • Focusing on print and electronic journalism, this concentration is designed for students interested in information-gathering techniques, writing for the mass media, publication editing and design, law, and ethics.

Media Production & Criticism

  • This concentration emphasizes the electronic production and critical assessment of our mass communication society.  The course of study features radio and television production and performance, as well as media criticism using different comparative and ideological frameworks.

Persuasive and Political Communication

  • Emphasizing the critical role of communication in society, this concentration examines social movements and political controversies, as well as different communication strategies, techniques, and perspectives that shape public policy.

Public Relations

  • This concentration provides a general overview of the principals of promotion, advertising, and crisis management  It offers a critical focus on specific types of organizations, select case studies, and emphasizes effective writing skills, persuasive strategies, and issues of free speech and ethics.
